🧋 Bubble Milk Tea
Ingredients
- 2 black tea bags (or loose black tea)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbsp sugar (or to taste)
- 1/2 cup tapioca pearls (boba)
- Ice
Steps
- Boil water and brew black tea for 5 minutes. Let cool.
- Cook tapioca pearls according to package until chewy.
- Add sugar to warm pearls and let them soak.
- In a glass, add pearls, ice, milk, and tea.
- Stir and serve with a wide straw.
🍗 Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken
Famous Taiwanese night market snack.
Ingredients
- 500g boneless chicken thigh (bite-sized)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice wine
- 1 tsp five-spice powder
- Sweet potato starch (for coating)
- Basil leaves
- Salt & pepper
Steps
- Marinate chicken with garlic, soy sauce, rice wine, and five-spice for 30 minutes.
- Coat each piece with sweet potato starch.
- Deep fry at 180°C until golden and crispy.
- Fry basil leaves briefly.
- Toss chicken with salt, pepper, and basil.
🥞 Scallion Pancake
Crispy outside, chewy inside street food favorite.
Ingredients (Dough)
- 2 cups flour
- 3/4 cup hot water
- 1/4 cup cold water
- Salt
Filling
- Chopped scallions
- Oil
- Salt
Steps
- Mix flour, salt, hot water, then cold water into dough.
- Rest 30 minutes.
- Roll flat, brush oil, sprinkle scallions and salt.
- Roll into a log, coil into a spiral, flatten again.
- Pan fry until golden and crispy.
🥬 Garlic Stir-Fried Water Spinach
A very common Taiwanese home-style vegetable dish.
Ingredients
- 1 bunch water spinach (morning glory)
- 4 cloves garlic (sliced)
- 1 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Steps
- Heat oil in a wok.
- Add garlic and stir-fry until fragrant.
- Add water spinach and stir-fry on high heat.
- Add salt and cook for 2–3 minutes.
- Serve immediately.
🍚 Braised Pork Rice
Classic comfort food found everywhere in Taiwan.
Ingredients
- 300g pork belly (small cubes)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 shallot (sliced)
- 1 boiled egg
- 1 cup water
- Cooked rice
Steps
- Sauté shallots and garlic until fragrant.
- Add pork belly and cook until slightly browned.
- Add soy sauce, dark soy, sugar, and water.
- Simmer for 40 minutes until tender.
- Serve over rice with braised egg.
